| 26th June 2008 Aqua Boxes and an International Visitor |
| Bill Wood's talk on Aqua boxes turned out to be a potted history of Bill's 25 years in Rotary. It brought back pleasant memories of the last 25 years of St Machar Rotary Club. Bill packed a lot into his talk and has done in Rotary more than most can aspire too. Thanks to Bill for raising the profile of St Machar throughout Rotary International. Bill displayed a couple of posters one of which is the basis of a caption competition. In the usual manner Bill had to tell a joke. Little does he know he did not need to bribe the members with a free meal for them to stay for his jokes. Well done Bill. We all appreciate your input to the Club and Rotary. |

|
| The Club also welcomed Rotarian Viren Pathak from the Pune Club in India. He was in Aberdeen and Dundee visiting his family who are studying in the respective Universities. President Hugh presented a Club banner which was exchanged for a Banner from the Pune Club. We wish Viren a pleasant stay in the UK. |

| 18th June 2008 Marlpool Barbeque |
| Members once again assisted at the Marlpool Summer Barbeque. The event gave members the opportunity to meet the school staff, parents and pupils at what may be the last barbeque at the school before it is integrated at the new Bankhead education complex. Some members displayed great culinary skills in sacrificing burgers and sausages on the barbeque while the others were very fashionable in their pinnies. A great evening was had by all. |

There were the usual organisational glitches by they did not distract form the kids enjoyment. The reports so far have all been positive. Thanks to all the Club members assisting with the setting up on Tuesday and those attending along with the kids on the Wednesday. I am sure you found the day as enjoyable as the kids. |

| The Club held their Assembly on Thursday evening when the incoming President Vester Buchan introduced the new convenors and council members, The Club has a comprehensive programme of activities for the next year covering some of the regular projects with the incoming convenors having some new ideas. We were joined by Assistant Governor Ewen Hatchwell who commented favourably on the Club's programmes and gave an insight into the District 1010 programme for 2008-9. Ewen also had the pleasure of awarding Rotarian Tony Crabbe with a Paul Harris Award. This came as a great surprise to Tony, who thanked Ewen, President Hugh and particularly the Club members for the honour of being nominated for the Paul Harris Award. |

| Bill Wood took the opportunity to display the contents of a typical Aqua box. The contents covered three tables and Bill said it was a challenge to get everything in the boxes and the lids closed. Well done to Club members who have supplied and filled 4 Aqua Boxes. Earlier this year, again due to the efforts of Bill and the Club we were also able to provide 2 Shelter Boxes. We were notified the Shelter Boxes had gone to Kabul. RIBI have recently issued 1700 boxes to Burma and 400 boxes to China. An urgent request for further boxes has been received from China. Bill's display is shown below. |

| 26th April 2008 |
| Aberdeen Rotaract had a fun day building and parading a float at the Annual Torcher Parade in aid of the Aberdeen Students Charities Campaign. By the looks of the photos it was a great day out. Unfortunately they were unable to take part in the torch light section of the parade due to an accident on Union Street. Well done to the members of Aberdeen Rotaract you did us proud! St Machar were also delighted to forward a cheque for £175 to WaterAid which Rotaract had raised at their Pub Quiz earlier in the month. All the best in your exams and for those leaving Aberdeen all the best in your future professions. Aberdeen St Machar look forward to the next academic year when we hope Aberdeen Rotaract will continue to flourish. |

| Following a donation from St Machar to Professor Emad El-Omar and the GI Research Group at Aberdeen University the Club visited the Institute of Medical Sciences Building to hear of the work carried out by the Group. We were made very welcome and given a slide presentation on the work of the GI Research Group by Dr Georgina Hold and a presentation by Dr Marie McLean on the genetic investigation research being carried out. Those attending had numerous questions for the presenting team. After coffee we were taken on a tour of the facilities which included a demonstration of the electron microscopes which can magnify up to 450,000 times. We also saw some of the equipment bought with the St Machar donation. Thank you to Professor El-Omar and his team for a very interesting visit. |

| 30th January 2008 |
| Once again St Machar travelled to Banchory for the
knockout round of the Gavel Challenge. Having enjoyed a very sociable Rotary meeting with the Banchory members we adjourned to the DISC for the Gavel Challenge. It was no challenge to the Banchory Club who well and truly defeated St Machar. An enjoyable evening was had by all and some Gavel newcomers have now sampled the delight of a Gavel Challenge. It was good to see Meg, Maggie and Murdo along to support the old gavellers. Vester's son was stand-by paramedic just in case it became too much for some of the members. Thanks for the support.
